Treasure Island

Hey People,
I recently read for the first time Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson. Honestly I loved it! Since this is a pretty well known book I won't give any background. I thought that the storyline was well thought out and beautifully articulated from beginning to end. He did an excellent job at grabbing your attention early on in the story and holding it there until the last page. The whole story is action packed and a real thriller. There were parts in the book that made my blood run cold, it was that good! It was creepy in parts, yet not so bad that you didn't want to read it anymore. Despite the previously stated points , there was enough humor throughout the book to keep it from getting depressing. Another thing I enjoyed about the book was that the language was much easier to understand than many other books I have read by Stevenson. I guess there weren't many things that I didn't like about the book, I was pretty well satisfied all the way around. Well thanks for listening to me gab.

  2. Wow, that was an excellent post with lots of description. Nice job.
I have to disagree though. My mom read it to a sibling and me a couple of years ago. It didn't grab my attention, so for most of the book I daydreamed instead of paying attention. I have a tendency to do that if the first few chapters of a book don't conquer my attention. I do think I would like it better if I was to read it again myself though.
Thank you for the post, Artful Dodger.

  4. I remember loving this book when I read it, largely because I LOVE pirates. I remember it being really exciting and creepy, too.

  5. I still don't have time to talk, but I have to agree with Christine G. I am a nautical freakazoid and a fanatical pirate lover. I think my most favorite stories are pirate stories.I love adventure, the sea,and pirates. Put all those together, and I'm so there!

  7. Hmmmm. Brian Jacques, he's the guy who wrote all those animal stories, right? I must have read like ten book by him back in the day.

  8. Yes, he wrote the "Redwall" books. There are 21 of them in all. I am reading #18 - High Ruhlain. The Castaway's books are so different, I can't believe that they are by the same author.

  9. I have read almost all of the Redwall books, as well as the Castaways books. I fell in love with Ben. I think any girl who has read, or is going to read those books would. He is almost ideal. I liked Treasure Island too. I there are so many things in that book that people have used in other things! Robert Louis Stevenson is a genius. I can't believe the difference between his Scottish/Irish accents in Kidnapped and the English accents in this. I remember that reading Kidnapped was hard because of their accents, but this was nice and easy. But, I suppose that if you weren't used to "pirate lingo," then this would be difficult as well.

  15. Oh good..I thought that that was C.S. Lewis. We should have a picture of W. Shakespeare. You know who is scary looking? Edgar Allen Poe. Creepy man... it fits, I guess. I found a picyure of Washington Irving. He doesn't look as mean...

  17. I was reading Richard III, and now I am trying to teach my little sister how to say, "For God and St. George, Richmond and Victory." She will be quoting Shakespeare before she is 2. I think she gets the most excited when I read the St. Crispian's Day speech from Henry V.

  20. Henry V is pretty much my favorite of Shakespeare's. The St. Crispian's Day speech was the first of Shakes I ever memorized...INCREDIBLE!! I get so into that speech every time I read it. Oh jeepers, it gets me so darn excited!! I love it so much. That speech is actually responsible for getting me into Shakespeare.
    It's mouth dropping :O
