Pride and Prejudic - An Eaternal Classic

By Jane Austen

I love this comedic Romance - which, of course, is entirely predictable. Every girl loves Pride and Prejudice. It's just so clever and romantic. Most of you know the story, but let us review anyway, shall we?

Elizabeth Bennet and her sister, Jane, are two very likable gals, despite their unfortunate relations. Elizabeth is witty and smart. She does not believe in marrying for money. Living in the era of Regency, in which you were only respected if you were rich/high in rank, this is not a very popular sort of attitude. She is considered the "odd duck" of the family, being sensible. Jane is also a lovely girl, and she is ready to think the best of everyone around her. When two rich young men come into town, (Mr. Darcy and Mr. Bingley) everyone immediately falls in love with Bingley, he being agreeable, enjoyable, and all-around very likable. Jane takes particular interest in him. Mr. Darcy, however, is twice as rich as Bingley, and ten times as disagreeable. Basically, everyone hates him and thinks he is proud, especially Elizabeth. No one has an any idea of Mr. Darcy's past, however, which is surprising and interesting. In the end, it turns out he is not so bad after all, and Ms. Elizabeth's opinions about him take a turn in the opposite direction ;)

A lot of you have read and enjoyed this as well as many other of Austen's books. They truly are brilliant.
I highly recommend the OLD BBC movie version of P&P (with Jennifer Ehle and Collin Firth.) I like it much better than the new version, but of course, that is only my opinion.

I rate it...um...#4.

Thank you kindly for reading. I am sorry it took to terribly long.

As always,
Lady Arwen

  4. I like the movie very much. I am reading the book now and find it very good. I do enjoy the older movie of Pride and Prejudice because it has much more detail than the newer one, but it is just so long. So most of the time I watch the newer version with Kiera Knightly.

  6. Where is Lord Dewhurst? Is he sick? Sad? On vacation? Does anyone know why he isn't commenting? Does anyone know if he's OK? Is he angry I didn't go off the book list? I am sorry about that, I didn't have time read any new books! I didn't mean to make you upset, Dewey!

  7. Not that I care, of course. It really doesn't matter to me if he doesn't approve of my post. Why in the world would that bother me? I was just inquiring on behalf of the rest of the followers, in case they are worried.

  10. Perhaps I did not wish to be harsly insulted.

  11. Harshly insulted? Really. Just because Lady Edith has a different taste of books that you do, does not mean you should take it personally!

  12. Did I insult anyone? I beg your pardon Lord Dewhurst! I would not consciously insult anyone for the world especially about taste in books! I know that my taste in them is rather out of the common way! I did not mean to cause tension between anyone! Please forgive me! And that goes for anyone else whom I may have insulted as well!
    With deepest regards,
    Lady Edith

  16. Lord Dewhurst, how in the WORLD did I insult YOU? I mean, I do not know what you are talking about. I haven't the foggiest idea, in fact. Really. Is he being over-sensitive or am I going crazy?

  19. Just yesterday my sister and I picked out the entire cast from our acquaintances for a movie of P&P that will never be filmed. :) We love that book, though I've only read it once and that was years ago. Though it's not my favorite Austen, Pride and Prejudice is delightfully witty and entertaining. I love Mr. Collins and I have to say that the 2005 movie version nailed his character even though they ruined everything else. Jane is probably my favorite character because she is so much like me (NOT the movie version of her--they changed her character in the 1995 version).

The movie of Sense and Sensibility with Emma Thompson (I'm not sure if that's the BBC one) is my favorite Austen movie adaption.
